When comparison makes it harder to see yourself clearly
Start here
There is nothing wrong with noticing other people.
We all look around.
We notice what others are doing.
How they seem to be coping.
Where they seem to be ahead.
Where we think we fit.
That can help us learn.
But sometimes comparison starts to turn against you.
You stop seeing the whole picture.
You see what others do well.
You miss what you do well.
You notice their strengths.
You dismiss your own.
And slowly, you start measuring yourself in a way that leaves you feeling smaller.
What this tends to look like
• Comparing yourself to others and feeling like you do not measure up
• Holding back because you assume you will not be good enough
• Feeling uncomfortable when someone praises you
• Noticing what others do well, but overlooking your own strengths
• Assuming other people are ahead while you are behind
• Playing it safe because you do not want to be exposed
Slow it down
Take your time. This does not need to be perfect.
Who have I been comparing myself to recently?
What did I assume about them?
What did I assume about myself?
What part of the picture might I be missing?
What am I overlooking in myself?
Catch it in the moment
Next time this shows up, pause and notice:
Am I seeing the whole person, or only the part that makes me feel behind?
Am I comparing their outside with my inside?
What do I know about my own effort, progress, or struggle?
What would I say to someone else who was judging themselves this harshly?
One small shift
• Notice when comparison starts to shrink you
• Name one thing you are dismissing in yourself
• Let praise land for a moment before pushing it away
• Remind yourself that you are not seeing the whole story
• Take one small step without waiting to feel fully confident

Just start noticing when comparison turns into self-judgement.
