Hello, I’m Adrian. I’m a therapist, web builder and dyslexic content creator. I have always believed people carry a quiet strength, even when life has made it difficult to see where to go next.
Between Paths is a free UK-based reflective and educational website created by Adrian Yates. It offers resources for self-discovery, understanding feelings and coping patterns, journaling, therapy safety, meditation and creative reflection. The site is designed to help people explore their experiences at their own pace without suggesting that there is one correct path.
Why I created Between Paths
A little about my background, since this page is about why I do this. I trained as a psychotherapist and hold diplomas in hypnotherapy (2006) and psychotherapy (2007), and I worked as a therapist for nearly 20 years. By 2011 I was working entirely online, when online therapy was still unusual. For around three years I also volunteered at a local Mind centre, giving therapy for free. That time shaped a lot of what I believe about who should be able to reach support.
One honest thing while we are here. I am not currently registered with a professional body. In the UK, joining a professional register is voluntary for psychotherapists. I would rather say that plainly than imply an accountability I do not have. What I can point to is the work itself, along with an honest account across this site of how I practise and what I do not do.
During those years, I worked with many different people. Quite a few had tried therapy before they came to me. For some, it had been helpful, even life-changing. For others, it had left them feeling unheard, misunderstood or disappointed by something that was supposed to help them. I also became aware that many people who could benefit from support simply couldn’t afford regular therapy, or were left trying to make sense of difficult experiences on their own.
When weekly therapy was not affordable, I sometimes offered fortnightly or monthly sessions instead. We would agree on things the person could reflect on, try or work with between sessions, so the support did not begin and end with the appointment.
That stayed with me. Not every helpful conversation has to happen in a therapy room. Sometimes people need a place to pause, reflect, learn something new, hear another perspective or simply feel less alone in what they are going through.
What I wanted to create
I do not believe support, reflection and personal growth should always sit behind a paywall. I am not here to tell people what to think, sell a system or pretend I have the answers. I think people often understand more about themselves than they realise, but stress, fear, self-doubt and painful experiences can make that understanding hard to reach.
Between Paths includes free reflections, journaling prompts, meditation exercises, podcasts, guidance on therapy red flags, and creative tools using writing, lyrics and music to explore thoughts and feelings. Some people find clarity through writing. Others through music, stillness, creativity, conversation or quiet reflection. There is no single path through life, and certainly no single way to heal, grow or reconnect with yourself.
The site is also shaped by what I call the Cognizance Therapeutic Principle, a way of working I developed many years ago. It begins with the belief that each person should be understood as an individual, not reduced to a diagnosis, label or theory. I do not see people as broken things waiting to be fixed. The work is about becoming more aware of your own experience, learning from it and deciding what feels right for you.
I hope Between Paths can become a quiet companion for people trying to understand themselves a little better. Somewhere to return to when life feels confusing. Somewhere to find ideas, questions and different perspectives without pressure or judgement.
Life rarely moves in a straight line. Most of us spend parts of it standing at crossroads, unsure which direction to take next. If something on these pages helps you feel more connected to yourself, more hopeful, or simply a little less alone, then this website has served its purpose.
A note about writing and AI
I have lived with dyslexia for most of my life, and writing has often taken more effort than people may realise. I sometimes use AI tools to help me turn what is in my head into something clearer on the page, particularly with drafting, structure, spelling and editing. The ideas, therapeutic perspective and final decisions are my own, and I read and review everything before it is published.
One last practical thing. Between Paths is not therapy or crisis support. If you need urgent help, please use a service that can respond now. The Crisis Resources page provides international directories and country-specific support options. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department. There is no shame in reaching out. I would rather you did that than stayed on a website.
Thank you for being here.
Keep well and keep safe, Adrian

Yes. The reflections, audio, journaling prompts and tools are free. There is nothing to buy, and nothing is locked behind signing up for updates.
