A private place to slow down and hear yourself more clearly
Between Paths Journal is a free, local-first Android journaling app for private reflection, emotional awareness and noticing patterns over time.
It is designed for people who want more precise words than “fine” or “stressed”, along with practical tools for the moments when writing is not enough.
Closed beta test
The app is currently preparing for a closed beta. Early testers can explore the app, report rough edges and directly influence how it develops.
Android only for now. Places may be limited while testing is underway.

Get it on Google PlayJournaling without ads, tracking or cloud storage
The aim is to create a private sanctuary for your inner world: somewhere to slow down, tell the truth and let your own voice come through.
No ads. No tracking. No cloud. Your words stay on your device, protected like they matter—because they do.
What the app can help you explore
Emotional granularity
Move beyond broad labels by naming feelings more precisely. The aim is not to judge an emotion, but to understand what is actually present.
Facts vs Story
Separate what happened from the interpretation, fear, assumptions or old scripts the mind added. Seeing both more clearly may change how you respond.
Mood and life tracking
Track mood, energy and stress alongside context such as sleep, exercise, social time and routines. Over time, patterns may become easier to notice.
A kinder reframe
Experiment with a response that is a little more compassionate without pretending a difficult situation is fine or forcing false positivity.
Calm tools for when the world gets loud
When you are overwhelmed, writing is not always possible. The SOS suite offers practical ways to reconnect with the present moment.
Guided breathing
Box breathing and 4-7-8 breathing with smooth visuals and optional haptics.
5-4-3-2-1 grounding
A sensory exercise to bring attention out of racing thoughts and back into the room.
Body scan
Notice where tension is being held and gently reconnect with the body.
Sometimes insight does not need to come first. Sometimes steadiness comes first.
The Labs
Lyric Lab
Shape honest journal writing into song ideas, including verses, choruses and bridges. The writing remains yours and does not need to become public.
Wisdom Lab
Use small interactive Growth Checks to practise boundaries, reframing, and responding instead of reacting.
Professional Library
Read built-in guides on journaling, self-compassion and recognising unhealthy dynamics, written to be useful rather than preachy.
Private reflection
Keep entries together on your device, export your journal when you choose, and create a secure backup.
Privacy that does not rely only on trust
Most apps ask you to trust them with your thoughts. Between Paths Journal is designed so less information has to leave your hands in the first place.
Local-first and zero-cloud
Journal data stays on your device rather than syncing your inner life to a remote server.
Encrypted storage
The app uses an encrypted SQLCipher database with AES-256 encryption.
Locked access
A mandatory seven-digit PIN, brute-force protection and optional biometric access help protect the journal.
You own your data
Export a readable copy or create a secure backup. Your words remain yours.
How testers can help
The most useful feedback is specific. While using the app, consider:
- Did naming the emotion more precisely change how it felt?
- Did the “10% kinder” reframe feel helpful or false?
- Did the SOS tools help when you felt anxious or stressed?
- Was anything confusing, inaccessible or difficult to use?
Use the Feedback option in the app settings to send a short note. Every response will be read.
Between Paths Journal is a reflective wellbeing tool, not a medical device, diagnosis or replacement for therapy or professional care. Stop using any exercise that leaves you feeling increasingly distressed or unsafe, and seek appropriate support when needed.
