1) Who we are

For data protection purposes, Between Paths is the “data controller” for any personal data collected through the website.

If you have questions, contact: su*****@**********hs.com

2) What this policy covers

This policy applies to:

A) The Website (BetweenPaths.com)

The website may collect limited personal data when you interact with it (for example, contacting us, signing up for updates, or submitting a guest/story form). The website also uses cookies and Google Analytics to understand site traffic and improve performance.

B) The App (Between Paths Journal)

The app is designed so your journal stays private.

Important: The app does not collect, transmit, or store your journal content on our servers. Your journal entries and audio notes are stored only on your device.

3) Website: what data we collect

When you use the website, we may collect:

A) Data you choose to provide

  • Name and email address (e.g. contact forms, newsletter sign-ups, guest applications)
  • Responses you submit (e.g. feedback, reflection forms, guest/story submissions)
  • Any information you voluntarily include in messages or applications

B) Technical and usage data (cookies/analytics)

  • Device and browser information
  • Pages visited and actions on the site
  • Approximate location (derived from IP address)
  • Other website usage statistics

We collect this through cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics (see Section 7).

4) App: what data we collect

A) Journal content (on-device only)

The app lets you create:

  • Written journal entries
  • Audio notes
  • Titles, tags, dates, and other notes you add

This content stays on your device. We do not receive it.

B) What the app does not collect

The app does not collect:

  • Analytics or tracking data
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Crash reporting data via third-party SDKs
  • Your journal entries or audio notes on any server (no cloud sync, no backup)

5) App microphone permission (RECORD_AUDIO)

The app includes an audio-note feature. Android requires microphone permission for this:

  • Permission: android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO

How the microphone is used

  • The microphone is used only when you choose to record an audio note inside the app.
  • The app does not record audio in the background.
  • The app does not record calls or capture audio without your action.

Where audio recordings are stored

  • Audio notes are stored locally on your device only
  • They are not uploaded, shared, or stored on our servers

6) How we use your data

Website

We use website personal data to:

  • Respond to messages and enquiries
  • Manage guest applications/submissions and consent
  • Provide updates or resources if you opt in
  • Improve website performance and user experience

App

Because the app does not collect or send us your journal data, we do not use app journal content for any purpose.

7) Cookies and Google Analytics (Website only)

BetweenPaths.com uses cookies for essential functionality and to understand website traffic.

We use Google Analytics to help measure and improve website performance. This typically involves collecting information such as pages visited, time spent on pages, and general device/browser info.

  • These analytics cookies are used on the website only
  • The app does not use Google Analytics

You can control cookies through:

  • Your browser settings, and/or
  • Any cookie preference tool/banner we provide on the site (if enabled)

Embedded media: Third-party embeds (e.g. podcast players, YouTube videos) may set their own cookies and collect usage data under their own policies.

8) Legal basis for processing (Website)

Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent (e.g. newsletter sign-ups, optional cookies, voluntary submissions)
  • Legitimate interests (e.g. improving the website, maintaining site security, running podcast operations)
  • Legal obligation (where we must keep records for compliance)

App note: The app stores your journal on your device; we do not process your journal content on our systems.

9) Sharing your data (Website)

We do not sell or rent your personal data.

We may share limited website data with trusted service providers only where necessary, such as:

  • Google Analytics (website usage measurement)
  • Website hosting providers (to run the site securely)
  • Email/newsletter providers (only if you opt in)
  • Form plugins/services (if used for contact or submissions)

These providers process data on our instructions or under their own policies where applicable, and we aim to use providers with appropriate safeguards.

International transfers: Some providers (including Google) may process data outside the UK. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as international data transfer agreements).

10) Data retention

Website

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, for example:

  • Enquiries: kept long enough to respond and resolve
  • Newsletter subscriptions: kept until you unsubscribe
  • Guest submissions: kept as needed for review, consent, and production/admin

App

Your journal content remains on your device until you delete it. Uninstalling the app typically removes locally stored app data (depending on your device and settings).

11) Security

We take reasonable steps to protect website data through appropriate security measures (e.g. access controls and secure hosting).

For the app, your data is protected primarily by your device’s built-in security and app sandboxing. You can strengthen this with device lock/PIN/biometrics.

12) Your rights (UK GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data
  • Ask us to correct or delete it
  • Withdraw consent at any time (where consent is the legal basis)
  • Object to certain processing
  • Request data portability (where applicable)
  • Complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

To make a request, contact: su*****@**********hs.com

13) Children’s privacy

The website and app are not intended for children under 13 (or the age required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through the website.

14) Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on our website, and we will update the effective date at the top.
